# Keyboard shortcuts

> Every keyboard shortcut in Envy's editor: pages, tools, editing, selecting, the timeline, the color picker, view and file, and the keys that change a drag.

Every shortcut in the editor, grouped as in **Settings › Keyboard shortcuts**. Press **?** to open that list in Envy.

Shortcuts wait while you type in a field or while a menu, popover or dialog is open. Shortcuts that change layers work only on a page that shows the canvas.

Some edits are pointer moves:

- Drag anywhere inside the box around several layers to move them all.
- Drag a layer outside its auto-layout frame to take it out.
- Hold **Ctrl** while you drag to drop a layer into another frame or out of its own, keeping its place. **Move into frame…** and **Move out of frame** do the same from the right-click menu and the command menu.
- Drag from a little outside a corner of the selection to rotate it. 90° turns are in the right-click menu.

## Select

| Enter | Select the children. On a text layer, edit its text |
| Shift Enter or Esc | Select the parent |
| Ctrl click | Select the deepest layer |
| Shift click | Add a layer to the selection, or take it out |
| Ctrl drag from empty space | Box-select layers inside frames |
| Ctrl A | Select all siblings |

With a drawing tool on, **Esc** goes back to the Select tool first.

## Timeline

| ←, → | Move the selected keys a frame (0.1 s with Shift) |
| ↑, ↓ | Go to the nearest key on the track above or below |
| Ctrl C, Ctrl X, Ctrl V | Copy, cut, paste keys. Paste lands at the playhead |
| Del | Delete the selected keys |
| Esc | Let go of the selected keys, or cancel a drag |

## While you drag

| Hold | Effect |
|---|---|
| Alt | With a layer selected, measure distances to the layer under the pointer |
| Shift | Lock to one axis (moving), keep proportions (resizing), turn in 15° steps (rotating), draw a square |
| Alt | Resize from the center |
| Ctrl | Move or resize without snapping |
| Ctrl | Moving: drop into the frame under the pointer. In auto layout, a bar shows where the layer goes |
| Esc | Cancel the drag |

## Pen and path points

| Keys | Action |

| Enter or Esc | Finish the path |
| Backspace or Del | Remove the last point. With no point left, stop drawing |

To edit the points of a path, select it and double-click it, or choose **Edit points** in the inspector. Then **Del** removes the selected point, and **Enter** or **Esc** stops editing.

## Color picker

| Arrows | Move the square or a slider (more with Shift) |

| Esc | Cancel the eyedropper or a drag, otherwise close the picker |

## View and file

| Ctrl Enter | Preview. Esc closes it |
| Ctrl E | Handoff page (exports) |

The mouse wheel pans the canvas, and Shift with the wheel pans sideways. Ctrl with the wheel zooms. **Settings › Scroll wheel** can make the wheel zoom instead. Dragging with the middle button pans with any tool.
