# Envy > Envy is a game UI editor. Design menus, HUDs and inventories on one canvas, then run the same file natively in Godot 4 and in the browser, with a contract your programmers or coding agents can wire up. Envy is in alpha and not publicly available yet; access opens in waves from the waitlist at https://envyui.com/waitlist. It exports a Godot package, playable HTML, an AI handoff package and the raw .envy.json document. The Godot runtime (GDScript addon, Godot 4.3+) builds real Control nodes; the web runtime is a 22 KB (gzipped) script with no dependencies. Game code only knows event names and data paths, so re-exporting a UI never changes game code. "Envy" is a working name. Facts about the showcase on this site (generated from the real document at build time): - The Last Hunt: 20 screens, 180 components in 30 sets, 6106 layers, 5 animations, 3 scenarios, 5 languages. It is a fictional game; names, numbers and dialogue are example data. Things that are planned and NOT available yet: an MCP server for coding agents, project files with external assets, a desktop app, cloud projects and comments, state machines, Unity and Unreal runtimes. The runtime license is not final (MIT is proposed). Pricing is not set; alpha access is free. ## Docs - [Quick start](https://envyui.com/docs/quick-start.md): Make your first game UI screen in Envy (alpha), preview it, and run it in Godot 4 or a web page. Takes about ten minutes. - [The editor](https://envyui.com/docs/editor.md): How Envy's game UI editor is laid out, the tools on the canvas, previewing, saving and the keyboard shortcuts you'll use every day. - [Layout](https://envyui.com/docs/layout.md): Anchors, offsets and auto layout in Envy work like Godot's Control anchors and box containers, so one layout holds at 16:9, 21:9, 16:10 and 4:3. - [Style, tokens and fonts](https://envyui.com/docs/style.md): Fills, gradients, image fills, borders, shadows, blur, text styles, color tokens and embedded fonts in Envy, and how each maps to Godot and CSS. - [Components](https://envyui.com/docs/components.md): Components, instances, variants, overrides and component properties in Envy. Build a button once and keep every copy on every screen in step. - [Data, events and lists](https://envyui.com/docs/data.md): Bind Envy layers to game data, emit named events from buttons, run actions without code, preview scenarios and repeat a row for every item in an array. - [Animation, transitions and overlays](https://envyui.com/docs/animation.md): Keyframe animation in Envy with seven easing curves, screen transitions (fade, slide, scale) and overlay screens, identical in Godot and the browser. - [Keyboard and gamepad focus](https://envyui.com/docs/focus.md): Make Envy menus playable with arrow keys, a d-pad or a stick. Automatic focus by position, explicit neighbours, initial focus and focus rings in Godot and the web. - [Localization](https://envyui.com/docs/localization.md): Translate an Envy game UI with keyed text and per-language tables, preview a pseudo-locale to catch clipping, export CSV for translators and switch language at runtime. - [Handoff and export](https://envyui.com/docs/handoff.md): Export an Envy game UI as a Godot package, playable HTML, the raw document or an AI handoff package with AGENTS.md, a contract, screenshots and typed code. - [Godot runtime](https://envyui.com/docs/godot.md): Run Envy game UI in Godot 4.3+ with the EnvyUI node. Real Control nodes, data binding, events, animation, overlays, translations and hot reload while the game runs. - [Web runtime](https://envyui.com/docs/web.md): Run Envy game UI in any web page or web game with one dependency-free script. Mount a document, set data, listen to events, run overlays and switch language. - [CLI](https://envyui.com/docs/cli.md): The envy command-line tool validates Envy documents in CI, prints the event and data contract, outlines screens, writes handoff files and prints the JSON Schema. - [For AI coding agents](https://envyui.com/docs/agents.md): How AI coding agents work with Envy - the AI handoff package, the event and data contract, the JSON Schema, the CLI, llms.txt and Markdown docs. - [The document format](https://envyui.com/docs/format.md): Reference for the .envy.json game UI document - boards, nodes, layout, style, components, interaction, bindings, focus, lists, scenarios, localization and animation. - [Known differences](https://envyui.com/docs/differences.md): Where Envy's Godot and web runtimes draw or behave slightly differently - fonts, clipping, shadows, blur, group opacity, focus search and lists. ## Pages - [Home](https://envyui.com/): what Envy is, with live product demos running the web runtime - [Showcase](https://envyui.com/showcase): The Last Hunt, a complete game UI in one document - [Runtimes](https://envyui.com/runtimes): Godot and web runtime APIs and install steps - [Starter kit](https://envyui.com/kit): the built-in kit of 15 screens with 7 theme presets - [Roadmap](https://envyui.com/roadmap): shipped and planned work - [Changelog](https://envyui.com/changelog): release notes, also as RSS at https://envyui.com/changelog.xml - [Pricing](https://envyui.com/pricing): free during the alpha; FAQ - [Waitlist](https://envyui.com/waitlist): join for alpha access ## Optional - [All docs in one file](https://envyui.com/llms-full.txt) - [Press kit](https://envyui.com/press)
